The Things to Know about James Meredith
One of the interesting things that has been there throughout history is that they have been heroes and these are people that have played a significant part in transforming the lives of other people. A number of the people were able to transform the world through business while others through politics and leadership but in addition, there are others who are human rights activists. One of the biggest civil rights activists in the world that was able to create history was known as James Meredith and he was an African-American. James Meredith was the first person who was African-American that was able to attend the University of Mississippi and this was in the year 1962. James Meredith was born in the year 1933 and he was raised together with other siblings actually, nine of them on a farm. James Meredith was able to attend a military high school after he was able to grow up. After high school, James Meredith was able to attend an all black college and it is after this that he was able to become the first student in the University of Mississippi. After being able to get his law degree from the University, James Meredith was involved in politics and also, civil rights.
James Meredith stays in the Jackson Mississippi region and he continues with civil rights activists. By living on a farm land together with your family, James Meredith had the chance to be insulated from racism which is a major problem this time. Being insulated from the racism, James Meredith did not know anything about this but while coming from Chicago on a train with his brother one day, he encountered the first encounter. They were forced to give up their seats to other people and were told to move to the back of the train in Memphis Tennessee. Up to the destination that they were going to, James Meredith and the brother had to stand together with many other black people that were the back of the train. The life changing experience for James Meredith was this moment in the train and that’s why, he dedicated his life to civil rights activities especially because of the black people to ensure that they are treated fairly, learn more now.
Before being able to successfully go into studying in the University of Mississippi, James Meredith had a revoked admission later because the registrar of the University of Mississippi realize that he was an African-American. While protecting this decision, James Meredith had the case move up to the Supreme Court and this is when finally, he was able to get the ruling in his favor. The political activity of James Meredith has been very consistent all throughout the years.
